Poetry UA
We have created a website dedicated to classical Ukrainian poetry, where everyone can explore the greatest masterpieces of Ukrainian literature.
This project holds special significance for me as a Ukrainian. It was created by Ukrainians for Ukrainians with great love for our culture and history.
My role
UX/UI designer & Graphic designer
The problem
Existing platforms lack comprehensive coverage and user-friendly interfaces
The accessibility and preservation of classical Ukrainian poetry face challenges due to limited digital resources and awareness. Existing platforms lack comprehensive coverage and user-friendly interfaces, hindering widespread appreciation and study of this rich literary heritage.
Limited visibility of Ukrainian poetry and authors on digital platforms may contribute to a lack of representation of Ukrainian culture in the global literary landscape.
How might we engage more people with Ukrainian poetry?
The Solution
Ad free responsive website prioritizing simplicity and readability
Leveraging modern web design principles and interactive elements to engage user
The website featured a sleek and intuitive user interface with visually appealing layouts, vibrant imagery, and seamless navigation to enhance the reading experience. We incorporated illustrations and historical photography to further captivate users and bring the spirit of Ukrainian poetry to life.
Additionally, we incorporated a curated blog to provide users with in-depth insights into Ukrainian poetry, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the art form.
The Process
Drawing inspiration from both historical and modern mediums
A bridge between the past and present
We made a deliberate choice to incorporate old archived photography of Ukrainians and Ukrainian landscapes. This decision was rooted in a desire to offer a visual journey through Ukraine's rich history and diverse cultures. By weaving these historical images into our website's design, we aimed not only to enhance the aesthetic appeal of our platform but also to deepen users' connection to Ukrainian poetry. Through these images, we invite users to explore the depths of Ukrainian poetry within a context that is both visually striking and emotionally resonant, fostering a greater appreciation for the nation's artistic and cultural contributions.
Univermag Font: A Tribute to Ukrainian Architectural Heritage
The Univermag font was created by a talented Ukrainian designer, Andrew Hnutov, based on the outdoor signage of the Kharkiv Central Department Store (ЦУМ). The building was designed by architect Movshovich in 1952. This font perfectly captures the aesthetic of one of the periods in Ukrainian history.
